Better ($3.50–$5). Special-order carpet. More colors and styles, a softer feel, and carpet that holds up better in the rooms you walk through every day.
Best ($5–$10+). Our top special-order lines. Thicker, denser carpet for a bedroom you want to feel great under bare feet, or a house you plan to stay in for a long time.
In every tier, the price includes the pad: in-stock carpet comes with a 4 lb standard pad (upgrade to an 8 lb moisture-barrier pad for $0.60 per sq ft), and special order carpet includes an 8 lb moisture-barrier pad. The pad matters more than most people think. It's the main reason cheap carpet goes flat, and our carpet pad guide explains why.
Those numbers cover most homes we measure. Tricky layouts, a lot of closets, or problems with the floor underneath can move the price. That's what the free measure is for.
